GROWTH OF THE WEB

Did you know that in 1991 there was only one website in the world?  Although difficult to believe, Tim Berners-Lee created the first website less than 30 years ago.  It was the start of the approximately one billion websites today.

You can see what the first web page looked like in the image here.  It ran on the typical green-on-black CRT monitors.  While the hyperlinks to other pages were the brilliance of the newly invented World Wide Web, they weren’t underlined yet.  Compared to the looks of the first web page, we’ve come a long way.

Of course this information is not important in creating your new website, but yes, we were creating custom software before the World Wide Web was invented.  And no, we didn’t invent it.  We were as surprised as everyone else.
